Meerhay Manor offers a self catering holiday cottage sleeping 2/3 people set in the grounds of a thatched hamstone house lying at the southern foot of the Dorset Downs. The exact age of the property is unknown, though it was rebuilt in 1610, and the building features stone floors and mullioned windows. The manor lies in four acres of well tended gardens and sits amidst thirty five acres of farmland where we keep ponies, sheep, dogs and horses. The small town of Beaminster lies less than a mile away and we are just seven miles from the coast and West Bay, where the TV series Harbour Lights was filmed.

Beaminster is an historical town set amongst the rolling Dorset hills and contains many old buildings and a character market square. There are a great many attractions to be found within the local area including Montecute, Kingston Lacey, Hardy's Cottage, Abbotsbury Swannery, Sherborne Castle and Yeovilton Air Museum to name but a few. Other towns to be found within easy reach include Lyme Regis (15 miles), Dorchester (16 miles) and Yeovil (14 miles). The property's central rural location makes this the ideal base for touring this beautiful part of the world.

The spacious lounge has a high ceiling and exposed beams and there is a fully fitted kitchen equipped with all modern conveniences. Sleeping accommodation is in a twin bedded en-suite room, with additional sleeping on a sofa bed in the living area. The property has been specially adapted for wheelchair users. Guests enjoy use of the garden and tennis court by arrangement.

Specialities

Writing weekends are often on offer and were originally started by our friend and neighbour, Lynne Reid Banks, author of the L Shaped Room and The Indian in the Cupboard. Since then we have acquired a small number of specialist tutors covering comedy, crime and creative writing. The aim is to provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which like minded people can get together and think about their shared interest in writing. Please enquire about these breaks.
